M. Alejandra Valenzuela Arellano, MD


Dr. Valenzuela, a native of Patagonia, graduated as a Valedictorian in her Medical School and Ophthalmology Residency in Santiago, Chile. She continued world-class international training in England, Canada, and Australia obtaining 4 fellowships in Ophthalmology, two of them in Orbit & Oculoplastics.

Dr. Valenzuela developed the first tertiary Orbital and Oculoplastics center of reference for the entire East Coast of Canada, and she led this position for three years until she was recruited by Tulane University in New Orleans, in 2011. At Tulane University, she obtained the degree of full Professor in Ophthalmology, being the youngest female surgeon to obtain this academic distinction in the history of this university.

She also served as a Professor of Ophthalmology at Wake Forest University, training medical students and residents, and developing advanced clinical research. She is certified by, as well as a member of, the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Valenzuela speaks fluent English and Spanish, and in her free time, she enjoys hiking with her dogs, skiing, and cooking for friends and family. She is an avid traveler and she likes exploring different cultures across the continents.
