John J. Teahan, MD

  1. Learn More About Dr. Teahan

    Having had refractive surgery performed on his own eyes, Dr. Teahan believes strongly in the benefits. He specializes in refractive and cataract surgery.

    Dr. Teahan is a board certified ophthalmologist and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He is the past President of the New Mexico Ophthalmologic Society.

    After attending Boston College, Dr. Teahan completed his medical school at Tufts University. He served in the United States Air Force as a flight surgeon for eight years, and was Chief of Ophthalmology at Kirtland AFB before going into private practice in 1991.

Paul Sanchez, MD

  1. Learn More About Dr. Sanchez

    Dr. Paul Sanchez , an Albuquerque native, attended the University of New Mexico and received his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School, as well as a Masters degree from Dartmouth College. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

    Dr. Sanchez is published in several medical journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of the American Medical Association and the Journal of Neurochemistry.

    After Hurricane Katrina, Dr. Sanchez assisted in the relief effort, providing emergency medical care to evacuees.

Jesse Swift, MD

    A native of Utah, Dr. Jesse Swift joins Southwest Eyecare Specialists on September 1, 2016!

    We are excited to welcome him following his ophthalmology residency at the University of Arkansas, which included experience at the Veteran’s Hospital and the distinction of being the Chief Resident.

    Prior to pursuing his rigorous three years of ophthalmic training, Dr Swift graduated from the University of Utah magna cum laude, and received his Doctorate of Medicine from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in 2012. He also completed his surgical internship at the Tucson Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona.

    His training is supplemented by his interest and experience in medical research. Dr Swift is featured on several professional publications, which include exploration of the role of Muller cells in damaged retina and the effects of polymer to enhance cellular integration and retinal repopulation.

    Dr. Swift is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Medical Association. He is fluent in French and enjoys the outdoors and spending time with his family!

Dr. Ken Downes
Kenneth M. Downes, M.D.

  1. Learn More About Dr. Downes

    Dr. Ken Downes, a native of New Mexico, joins Southwest Eyecare!

    Dr. Downes obtained his undergraduate degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. He then returned to Albuquerque to obtain his medical degree at the University Of New Mexico School Of Medicine.

    Dr. Downes completed his Internship in Pennsylvania at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and completed his Residency in Ophthalmology at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, where he also served as Chief Resident. During this time, he traveled to the world-renowned Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai, India to complete specialized surgical training.

    Upon completing Residency, Dr. Downes spent a year working as a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist at Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, California. He then completed a subspecialty Fellowship in Cornea and External Disease at the Oregon Health Sciences University Casey Eye Institute.

    He is published across several medical journals and has given several talks and presentations of his research at national medical conferences. Dr. Downes is fully licensed in several states and board certified in Ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

    Dr. Ken Downes speaks English and Spanish and in his free time enjoys the outdoors, beer brewing and spending time with his family and two dogs, Emma and Nero.

    We welcome Dr. Downes to our practice to provide Cornea subspecialty services to our patients!

Stacia Jacobi Garcia

Stacia Jacobi-Garcia, M.S., O.D.

    Doctor Jacobi-Garcia, a renowned optometrist in the Albuquerque community since 2006 serves you, our patients with professionalism and strength. Since joining our practice in 2015, she has brought a wealth of value to our eye care team. Dr. Jacobi-Garcia has advanced training in the management and treatment of ocular disease through Optometric Medicine. When she is not doing what she loves to do here, Dr. Jacobi-Garcia boasts great adventures with her husband, step-children, nine grandchildren and five dogs!
