David T. Truong, MD
Dr. Truong is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in cataract, cornea, and refractive surgery for Southwest Eyecare. He performs the full spectrum of Corneal Transplant surgery and Advanced Technology Cataract surgery. He also offers laser vision correction to help his patients achieve the best vision possible.
Dr. Truong graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of California, Irvine and earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Following residency, he obtained further training in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the world-renowned Jules Stein Eye Institute in Los Angeles. He has published extensively and has served as faculty at the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Prior to moving to New Mexico, Dr. Truong practiced in Kansas where he served on the board of directors of the Kansas Eye Bank. Since moving to New Mexico in 2019, he has continued to manage the most complex cases from across the state. He currently serves as a counselor to the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Truong is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Cornea Society, and is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
In their free time, Dr. Truong and his wife enjoy traveling, skiing, snowboarding, and exploring local culture and food.
