John J. Teahan, MD

John J. Teahan

Having had refractive surgery performed on his own eyes, Dr. Teahan believes strongly in the benefits. He specializes in refractive and cataract surgery.

Dr. Teahan is a board certified ophthalmologist and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He is the past President of the New Mexico Ophthalmologic Society.

After attending Boston College, Dr. Teahan completed his medical school at Tufts University. He served in the United States Air Force as a flight surgeon for eight years, and was Chief of Ophthalmology at Kirtland AFB before going into private practice in 1991.

Paul Sanchez, MD

Paul Sanchez

Dr. Paul Sanchez , an Albuquerque native, attended the University of New Mexico and received his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School, as well as a Masters degree from Dartmouth College. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

Dr. Sanchez is published in several medical journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of the American Medical Association and the Journal of Neurochemistry.

After Hurricane Katrina, Dr. Sanchez assisted in the relief effort, providing emergency medical care to evacuees.

Peter Beaudette, MD

Peter Beaudette

Dr. Beaudette has been in private practice in Albuquerque since 1977. He currently serves as the Secretary/ Treasurer of the New Mexico Medical Society, is a past president of that group, and is the representative for the National Academy of Ophthalmology for New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah.

After receiving his medical degree from the University of Tennessee, Dr. Beaudette served as a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force. He received his specialty training in ophthalmology at the Mayo Clinic, and was a fellow at the Guinness Eye Institute at Amadu Bello University in Nigeria.

Dr. Beaudette has also been Chief of Ophthalmology at Presbyterian, St. Joseph, Kirtland Air Force Base and VA Hospitals, and attained the rank of Colonel in the Air Force Reserves.

Randy Black, MD

Randy Black

Dr. Black has been acknowledged as one of Albuquerque’s “Top Docs” for the last two years by Albuquerque The Magazine. A life-long resident of Albuquerque and graduate of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, he completed his general surgery internship in Tucson, Arizona before moving to Memphis, Tennessee for his Ophthalmology residency.

Dr. Black completed a fellowship in Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery before returning to his home city of Albuquerque, to begin caring for the eye health of patients as a board certified ophthalmologist and oculoplastic surgeon.

Stephen J. Saxe, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Stephen J. Saxe

Dr. Saxe comes to Southwest Eye Care Specialists from the world-renowned Kellogg Eye Center of the University of Michigan where he has cared for patients with complex medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous for 12 years.

Dr. Saxe graduated from Wayne State University (WSU) School of Medicine in Detroit. He completed a pre-residency fellowship in Ophthalmic Pathology at the Emory Eye Center, in Atlanta. Ophthalmology residency was done at the Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit where he served as Chief Resident. Specialty training in Vitreoretinal Surgery was completed at the Cullen Eye Institute at Baylor College of Medicine and Retina and Vitreous of Texas in Houston.

Dr. Saxe has been named to Best Doctors of America and Metro Detroit’s Top Doctors. He has lectured both nationally and internationally and has been a co-investigator in 24 nationally recognized clinical trials.

Dr. Saxe is board-certified in ophthalmology and holds membership in several professional organizations including: American Society of Retinal Specialists, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American College of Surgeons and the Michigan Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr. Saxe’s desire is to provide state–of–the-art, world-class retinal care for patients in a professional and compassionate manner.

Arlene Bagga, MD

Arlene Bagga

Dr. Bagga is a Board Certified Comprehensive Ophthalmologist with a special interest in Cataract Surgery. She comes to Southwest Eye Care from the University of New Mexico, where she was an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and a key faculty member in the surgical training of senior ophthalmology residents.

After completing her undergraduate training at the University of Michigan, she went on to Rush Medical College in Chicago, IL. Dr. Bagga completed her ophthalmology residency at Tufts- New England Eye Center in Boston, MA. She began practicing in Albuquerque in 2005.

Dr. Bagga serves as an Executive Committee Member of the New Mexico Academy of Ophthalmology, and is a past president. She is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a graduate of the AAO Leadership Development Program.
