John J. Teahan, MD

Having had refractive surgery performed on his own eyes, Dr. Teahan believes strongly in the benefits. He specializes in refractive and cataract surgery.

Dr. Teahan is a board certified ophthalmologist and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He is the past President of the New Mexico Ophthalmologic Society.

After attending Boston College, Dr. Teahan completed his medical school at Tufts University. He served in the United States Air Force as a flight surgeon for eight years, and was Chief of Ophthalmology at Kirtland AFB before going into private practice in 1991.

Paul Sanchez, MD

Dr. Paul Sanchez , an Albuquerque native, attended the University of New Mexico and received his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School, as well as a Masters degree from Dartmouth College. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

Dr. Sanchez is published in several medical journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of the American Medical Association and the Journal of Neurochemistry.

After Hurricane Katrina, Dr. Sanchez assisted in the relief effort, providing emergency medical care to evacuees.

Peter Beaudette, MD

Dr. Beaudette has been in private practice in Albuquerque since 1977. He currently serves as the Secretary/ Treasurer of the New Mexico Medical Society, is a past president of that group, and is the representative for the National Academy of Ophthalmology for New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah.

After receiving his medical degree from the University of Tennessee, Dr. Beaudette served as a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force. He received his specialty training in ophthalmology at the Mayo Clinic, and was a fellow at the Guinness Eye Institute at Amadu Bello University in Nigeria.

Dr. Beaudette has also been Chief of Ophthalmology at Presbyterian, St. Joseph, Kirtland Air Force Base and VA Hospitals, and attained the rank of Colonel in the Air Force Reserves.

R. Joe Cannon, MD

Voted one of the best doctors in America, Dr. Cannon’s reputation is based on over 30 years of contributions to ophthalmology in New Mexico. In addition to his professional accomplishments here, Dr. Cannon has a long time interest in medical missionary work and is a consultant to a hospital and clinic in Sucre, Bolivia.

A graduate of Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Dr. Cannon completed a two-year tour with the United States Public Health Service in Washington, DC. He completed dual fellowships in neuro ophthalmology at the University of Utah and the University of California.
Dr. Cannon is a  board certified ophthalmologist and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the Pan American Ophthalmologic Society.

Randy Black, MD

Dr. Black has been acknowledged as one of Albuquerque’s “Top Docs” for the last two years by Albuquerque The Magazine. A life-long resident of Albuquerque and graduate of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, he completed his general surgery internship in Tucson, Arizona before moving to Memphis, Tennessee for his Ophthalmology residency.

Dr. Black completed a fellowship in Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery before returning to his home city of Albuquerque, to begin caring for the eye health of patients as a board certified ophthalmologist and oculoplastic surgeon.
